Learning From The Links

by David K. Hurst, Learning From The Links Books available in PDF, EPUB, Kindle, Docs and Mobi Format. Download Learning From The Links books, For the first time, a seasoned business executive and avid golfer combines these two passions to explore what makes for top performance in each field. Management consultant David K. Hurst explores compelling links relating the two activities to explain clearly what every manager who plays golf may feel only intuitively: that there is a deep systemic connection between them. For on the tee, as in the boardroom, a player can't just hit and hope -- he or she must continually think ahead, contemplate multiple scenarios, and consider the downside of every decision. And then everything depends on execution. In Learning from the Links, Hurst clarifies muddled thinking in both management and golf: he deals squarely with the challenge of implementing a game plan and seeing it through. Hurst takes to task the current "head-down" instructional model used to teach golf and management. He addresses the huge gulf between knowing what to do in a given situation and knowing how to do it. This chasm is an ever-present hazard both on the course and in an organization: it keeps people from solving their problems and achieving their goals. By examining golfers' and managers' struggles for improvement, Hurst shows us why complex systems are so hard to change and how to set about changing them -- systematically. Using the latest thinking from fields as diverse as neuroscience, artificial intelligence, art, and anthropology, Hurst's primary purpose is to help his readers make sense of their own experience -- to help them learn more effectively. His practical advice is profusely illustrated with examples from both golf and management, allowing the reader to move back and forth between his or her experiences in both activities. Part business management book, part strategy guide, these are more than just lessons for one's game or one's office: these are lessons for life.

Murder On The Links

by John Logue, Murder On The Links Books available in PDF, EPUB, Kindle, Docs and Mobi Format. Download Murder On The Links books, At the Augusta National Golf Course, home of the Masters, the spring grass is green and the world's most famous golfers are gathered. It looks as if it's going to be another splendid tournament. Until Melvin Newton's body is found in Eisenhower Pond, the apparent victim of a suicide. But what looks like suicide to most, looks like murder to John Morris, a retired AP sportswriter, and his spirited, sexy friend Julia Sullivan. Newton, a wealthy businessman and elite member of the club, is the type of man to be killed, not the type to kill himself, Morris reflects. He was a man with many enemies and few friends. But the list of suspects is enormous enough for Morris to include himself. Who didn't wish this man dead? Play at the tournament progresses as does Morris's search for a killer. Then, after another inexplicable tragedy, Morris and Sullivan begin to whittle away at the possible suspects. Together, they creep around the course looking for clues and searching their memories when the trail seems to lead to an old enemy who may just turn out to be an old friend. Set against the background of the famous and toney tournament, John Logue crafts a wonderfully inventive mystery, full of rich characters, good golf, and enough plot twists to astonish. Originally published in paperback by Dell, this digital republication is an authorized and unabridged edition, presented expertly in ebook formats by Quid Pro Books. The Horror On The Links

by Seabury Quinn, The Horror On The Links Books available in PDF, EPUB, Kindle, Docs and Mobi Format. Download The Horror On The Links books, Today the names of H. P. Lovecraft, Robert E. Howard, August Derleth, and Clark Ashton Smith, all regular contributors to the pulp magazine Weird Tales during the first half of the twentieth century, are recognizable even to casual readers of the bizarre and fantastic. And yet despite being more popular than them all during the golden era of genre pulp fiction, there is another author whose name and work have fallen into obscurity: Seabury Quinn. Quinn’s short stories were featured in well more than half of Weird Tales’s original publication run. His most famous character, the supernatural French detective Dr. Jules de Grandin, investigated cases involving monsters, devil worshippers, serial killers, and spirits from beyond the grave, often set in the small town of Harrisonville, New Jersey. In de Grandin there are familiar shades of both Arthur Conan Doyle’s Sherlock Holmes and Agatha Christie’s Hercule Poirot, and alongside his assistant, Dr. Samuel Trowbridge, de Grandin’s knack for solving mysteries—and his outbursts of peculiar French-isms (grand Dieu!)—captivated readers for nearly three decades. Collected for the first time in trade editions, The Complete Tales of Jules de Grandin, edited by George Vanderburgh, presents all ninety-three published works featuring the supernatural detective. Presented in chronological order over five volumes, this is the definitive collection of an iconic pulp hero. The first volume, The Horror on the Links, includes all of the Jules de Grandin stories from “The Horror on the Links” (1925) to “The Chapel of Mystic Horror” (1928), as well as an introduction by George Vanderburgh and Robert Weinberg.

Download Misfits On The Links books, It doesn't matter if your home course is like Augusta, Disgusta, or somewhere in between. Just wander the fairways of any of the more than 3,000 courses nationwide, and you will quickly discover there are certain universal golfer types that can always be found. With its familiar and funny descriptions paired with clever caricatures, MISFITS ON THE LINKS captures 40 readily identifiable species of golfers. Some of these freaks of the fairway are charming with their clumsy and clueless ways. Others - well - not so much. This handy guide, which fits easily into your golf bag, will help you immediately identify these golfing freaks. The Mulligan Man: Drops balls indiscriminately, appearing to sow seeds like a latter-day Johnny Appleseed. The Cart Gunner: Either slams brakes or guns the accelarator, always at the top of your golf swing. The Club Chucker: Releases clubs in helicopter fashion, endangering those around him. With its dead-on parodies, MISFITS ON THE LINKS makes a great year-round gift for that golfing dad, and it could well be a staple in golf shops nationwide.

Energy And Water Preliminary Observations On The Links Between Water And Biofuels And Electricity Production

by Anu Mittal, Energy And Water Preliminary Observations On The Links Between Water And Biofuels And Electricity Production Books available in PDF, EPUB, Kindle, Docs and Mobi Format. Download Energy And Water Preliminary Observations On The Links Between Water And Biofuels And Electricity Production books, Water and energy are inexorably linked -- energy is needed to pump, treat, and transport water and large quantities of water are needed to support the development of energy. Two examples that demonstrate the link between water and energy are the cultivation and conversion of corn, switchgrass, and algae into biofuels; and the production of electricity by thermoelectric power plants. There are three ongoing studies focusing on the water-energy nexus related to: (1) biofuels and water; (2) thermoelectric power plants and water; and (3) oil shale and water. This testimony provides the key themes that have emerged from work to date on the R&D and data needs with regard to the production of biofuels and electricity and their linkage with water.

Review Of The Literature On The Links Between Biodiversity And Climate Change

by , Review Of The Literature On The Links Between Biodiversity And Climate Change Books available in PDF, EPUB, Kindle, Docs and Mobi Format. Download Review Of The Literature On The Links Between Biodiversity And Climate Change books, The Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change 4th Assessment Report (AR4) concluded that climate change will have significant impacts on many aspects of biological diversity: On ecosytems, species, genetic diversity within species, and on ecological interactions. The implications of these impacts are significant For The long-term stability of the natural world and For The many benefits and services that humans derive from it. This report reviews the literature since the AR4. it draws on recent research to summarise advances in our understanding of the impacts of climate change on biodiversity. The evidence For The impacts on biodiversity comes from three principal sources. First, from direct observation of changes in components of biodiversity in nature that can be clearly related to changes in climatic variables. Second, experimental studies using manipulations to elucidate responses to climate change. Finally, and most widely, from modelling studies where our current understanding of the requirements and constraints on the distribution of species and ecosystems are combined with modelled changes in climatic variables to project the impacts of climate change and predict future distributions and changes in populations.
