Listening Out Loud

by Randall Huntsberry, Listening Out Loud Books available in PDF, EPUB, Kindle, Docs and Mobi Format. Download Listening Out Loud books, Many pupils were studying meditation under the Zen master Sengai. One of them used to arise at night, climb over the temple wall, and go to town on a pleasure jaunt. Sengai, inspecting the dormitory quarters, found this pupil missing one night and also discovered the high stool he had used to scale the wall. Sengai removed the stool and knelt in its place. When the wanderer returned, not knowing that Sengai was the stool, he put his feet on the master's head and jumped down into the grounds. Discovering what he had done, he was aghast. Sengai said, "It is very chilly in the early morning. Do be careful not to catch cold." The pupil never went out at night again. (Adapted from Zen Flesh, Zen Bones compiled by Paul Reps)

Download Da Capo Selected Writings 1967 2004 books, Da Capo is a collection of stories, plays, poems and journals in which Tom Bissinger takes on his world, whether reading Shakespeare to a blind bag lady, observing three playwrights comically vying to destroy each others career amidst the bustle of a Korean deli, or meditating on his father in a Sao Paulo swimming pool. Part autobiography, part story telling, part poetic explorations of dream world, and part social satire, Bissinger conveys the theatricality of so called ordinary existence by pulling his life towards him, hungering for the nuggets of mirth and meaning, ultimately owning it in original, daring prose. He takes on the challenge of staying awake in a troubled, violent world, while addressing his yearning for reverie and revelation.

Horror Stories

by Darryl Jones, Horror Stories Books available in PDF, EPUB, Kindle, Docs and Mobi Format. Download Horror Stories books, The modern horror story grew and developed across the nineteenth century, embracing categories as diverse as ghost stories, the supernatural and psychological horror, medical and scientific horror, colonial horror, and tales of the uncanny and precognition. This anthology brings together twenty-nine of the greatest horror stories of the period, from 1816 to 1912, from the British, Irish, American, and European traditions. It ranges widely across the sub-genres to encompass authors whose terror-inducing powers remain unsurpassed. The book includes stories by some of the best writers of the century — Hoffmann, Poe, Balzac, Dickens, Hawthorne, Melville, and Zola — as well as established genre classics from M. R. James, Arthur Machen, Bram Stoker, Algernon Blackwood, Charlotte Perkins Gilman, and others. It includes rare and little-known pieces by writers such as William Maginn, Francis Marion Crawford, W. F. Harvey, and William Hope Hodgson, and shows the important role played by periodicals in popularizing the horror story. Wherever possible, stories are reprinted in their first published form, with background information about their authors and helpful, contextualizing annotation. Darryl Jones's lively introduction discusses horror's literary evolution and its articulation of cultural preoccupations and anxieties. These are stories guaranteed to freeze the blood, revolt the senses, and keep you awake at night: prepare to be terrified!
